The Nostalgic Steampunk Marriage

Marriage Ceremonies are Steampunk

Weddings by their very nature give us the gift with a reminisce of romance & nostalgia. What better way to celebrate than by harking back to the Spirit of times gone by.

Brides of today are choosing themes that filled generations of young ladies' yester year dreams.

The blushing bride's choice of the day is for Ethereal forest & lake nuptials, a Regency queen for a day, Irish rural celebration & libation or the bucolic charm of an Agrarian Farm wedding.

Hauntingly ethereal Gothic is making a presence in bridal dress and venue. New Zealand, a popular tourist wedding destination is dotted with Gothic style churches built by the various denominations during the settler era. It is also a Southern Pacific country of Celtic influence, rolling country side, forest and water that lends itself to the Antipodean Revival style of a nostalgic wedding theme

The Thrifty wife

Just as brides in previous times had to make do by necessity , the modern miss may have to cut her coat according to her cloth. In accordance with the steampunk ethos, stream line empire style can be sewn at home, by a seamstress for a far lower price than a princess confection of ruffles and puffs - or bought off the bargain rack

Maybe a shorter above the knee wedding  frock of a trimmed down vintage wedding gown or an heirloom taken straight from Grandmothers wardrobe as she wore it at her 1960s marriage do .

The search for a celebrant is willing come to the party in full costume is well worth while.

 Queen for a Day

Bridal head gear is back on top. The crowing glory is a wedding halo of jeweled or floral decoration which may be accompanied by the sweet  innocence of the  Juliet cap veil.

Flowers are bigger than ever and stolen from the garden or the wild countryside.

Agapantha, red hot poker, hydrangea, honeysuckle, fern

A bouquet of  of nature's bounty is  beautiful  to behold.

Vintage style fur, real or just for fun  is enjoying  the ride with  the wedding party.

Wedding Photo Props for Photo Ops

Other popular accessories  in keeping  with the current  Agrarian wedding themes include traditional  farm animals. Sheep, horses, poultry, fox terriers and wolf hounds are all invited to join in the festivities.

For reasons not yet  supplied, for the  photo shoot reindeer  are wanted dead or alive

Water has long held symbolism as a celebration of the currents of  life, its ebbs and flows.

Because it floats your boat

Lake side or sea side; water's waves represent a new fresh cycle of life.

 Setting the Scene

Chandelier and candelabra are casting a wedding glow.

From the country kitchen or a Squire's banquet

Traditional culinary  fare and a well set table are the order of the day.

Need more reason for raiding Grandmother's cupboards than to add another layer of fond family memories. Nostalgic table cloths, doilies, blankets, sheets, curtains and fabric of a pretty theme. Charity begins at home - or in an opportunity shop. Vintage thrift shop lace, table & glass wear and other inspiring props can be penny saving.

Arrivals & Departures

- how to make a grand entrance  and a dramatic exit

Vintage vehicles are de riguer and add a certain something to the occasion. They are the quotation marks around your wedding day.

Classic cars say it best. British or European design stand the test of time.

Daimler are Steampunk, original or custom built.

The Queen uses a Rover. One could make a statement arriving in a similar style.

what would be a more fitting ending for a country estate wedding reception than leaving in a post war Land Rover

If it all gets too much to bear and the day  becomes a nightmare  ..... you can always run off into the forest
